Over the recent years we have travelled to places of much interest and this trip was no exception. Starting out in Reykjavik we moved on to Svalbard where we spent most of our time and unlike previous journeys this was an expedition that also involved inflatable Zodiacs to get us on to remote islands and in some instances as near to the wildlife as we dared.
The ice this year 2019 was much thicker than last year we were told and despite the Arctic ice shelf and glaciers melting and receding we were able to travel quite high into the Arctic that gave us the best chance of seeing wildlife. We were blessed with many exciting sightings, photography not being my strong suit meant that in some instances the best wasy to view what you are seeing is with youer eyes rather than sitting behind a camera lens. Yes, the scenery was stunning and the weather unseaonably kind and the memories will stay long with us from this frozen stunning North of our planet.
Those icebergs and glaciers were just fabulous to see.
Iceland is an amazing country to visit for diverse scenery, volcanoes, some of which are active today, blue lagoons, waterfalls, ice caves and glaciers and stunning countryside.
I would like to thank my fellow travellers on our journey who kindly swapped and shared images so that you can enjoy many of them.
Svalbard is below the North Pole and comes under Norwegian governance but a number of countires also have interest in the Arctic. Islands visited included Jan Meyen, Vigur, Bear to name but 3. Look at the intermet for more information on this remote piece of paradise on our planet.
